Future Fossils
Future Fossils revalue the leftovers of Hermès with the aim of telling the story of Petit h. The project reshapes the narratives of the leftovers aiming to change people’s perspective on them as a material.
Every Future Fossil is placed into a wooden preservation box, in combination with a movie the leftover material tells its own story. In this way some leftovers and their stories stay preserved even when the production of leftovers of Hermès would go extinct one day.
Fossils are the remains, or an imprint of something that lived before. When we dig up real fossils, they might look like ordinary stones, but when we look at them carefully, we discover they contain information of the past. Just like fossils, every leftover of Hermès has a past, it came from somewhere and thus it carries a story. Petit h gives the material a chance to continue existing. The leftovers are in between the past and the future, making them fossils of the future.
